The idea of Qonto was born from a frustration: as Alex and Steve were building together their first startup (Smok.io - bought in 2015), they were stricken by the lack of service banks could offer to manage their daily tasks and simplify their accounting. Today's technology enables to drastically enhance the productivity and create pleasure at the same time; the two founders were convinced that something could be done within this field and they started working on Qonto in April 2016.
The mission was consequently very clear: to build the best banking service for SMEs by mixing advanced technology, optimized processes and an elegant design. We think that SMEs have been neglected for too long and that the traditional actors have failed to propose a banking experience adapted to the needs of entrepreneurs. The professional banking should be efficient, good looking and cheap. Our mission is to dust off the banking experience!

Steve values great work and great products which have large impacts. At Qonto, he looks after product, design and operations.
Prior to Qonto, Steve co-founded Smok.io (acquired by a Fortune 500), led operations at Groupon and formerly worked at Deloitte Consulting. He holds an MSc from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) and an MBA from INSEAD.
Alex is a real Swiss knife, obsessed by fixing the root causes of inefficient businesses. At Qonto, he focuses on sales & marketing and the regulatory part of the business.
Prior to Qonto, Alex co-founded Smok.io (acquired by a Fortune 500), managed Wimdu France (Rocket Internet) and started his career at McKinsey & Co and Goldman Sachs. He holds an MSc from HEC Paris and an MBA from INSEAD.
